The residence in a corner plot embodies a sense of order that aims to contrast with elements in the otherwise cluttered neighborhood. This concept is carried through in the minimal rendition of its opaque volume at the corner, giving way to a self conscious lightness and transparency as one recedes away from it. The built mass floats on a recessed base, which articulates its entry and vertical circulation, through the warmth of timber and stone. These components of the home gradually give way to the rhythmic occurrence of spaces within the interior with the floating staircase as a constant that binds them all. Allowance of light is judicious in both volume and quality. The interiors of this home, while receiving abundant light in functional spaces like the staircase and kitchen, does not get overpowered by natural illumination in the intimacy of its lounges and toilets.
