The site for the apartments is located at SaraswatiVihar. This locality has plotted development where all the plots were allotted to teachers. Saraswatiin hinduismis the name of the goddess of knowledge, music, art, speech, wisdom and learning . The goddess Saraswatiis often depicted as a beautiful woman dressed in pure white, often seated on a whitelotus, which symbolizes light, knowledge and truth. As the locality was specifically for the teachers and was named SaraswatiVihar, the design was conceived to represent the goddess of knowledge and is designed in white. The site is three sides open and there is a house on one of the long sides . The other long side of the plot faces the west. The west sun brings in a lot of sunlight and thus heat. Hence this side has been kept mainly solid with very few windows. A metal pergola has been introduced on top to provide shade. While mostly solid, elements in the west façade are designed to come in and out so as to create music in the form of a play of shadows. The original owner will keep staying on the ground floor. Hence the ground floor has been treated in a different material to give importance as well break the vertical volume. The design allows the corner to flow and the balconies on the North façade carry forward the music.
